Guess what I did last night? I played a theremin.
A what? A THEREMIN. An Etherwave Theremin to be exact.
And, well, I didn't so much play it as make some noise, but it was really, really interesting. It takes a lot of coordination and control. I bet Reeves, with all his movie kung-fu, would be good at it.
In site news, I have finally caught up on moving the archives.
Yay me.
Krix, you rock! Theremins are waaaay cool! (I've got one on my Wishlist) Did the one you played happen to be a Bob Moog Signature model?
Are you gonna be the next Clara Rockmore? :)
Posted by: Craig on May 9, 2002 05:51 PMI don't know about the model, but it was exactly the one on the Etherwave page.
I had never heard of it before last night. Who's Clara Rockmore?
eta: Never mind, I just googled it. Cool, I can download her book in PDF.
Posted by: krix on May 9, 2002 06:05 PMa theramin! i just recently even learned what they were, and have never seen one personally. that sounds like so much fun!
Posted by: kd on May 9, 2002 06:26 PMKrix, that is a really cool sound. Ya know something? I'm probably wrong but, that weird sound on My Own Private Idaho? I think that was someone playing a saw but, could it have been a theramin? Just a thought. Rhonda
Posted by: Rhonda on May 9, 2002 07:20 PMI'm not sure what sound you're referring to in the movie, Rhonda -- but the 'classic' Theremin sound is the electronic 'whistle' in the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations", if that helps you figure out what one typically sounds like. Or nose around at http://www.bigbriar.com/ a bit -- they have some sound samples up there.
