The keanuvision store is no more.
It seems both the "I [heart] whatthefuckever" and Mr. Reeves' first name "can constitute both copyright and trademark infringement", and it has been closed.
I really didn't think that they did, but I guess I can see how they do, so rather than argue it I'm just going to say thank you to those that have helped support the site by buying items from the store, hang on to them because they're irreplacable now.
And I'd like to apologize to whoever owns the rights to "I [heart] whatthefuckever" and to all the Keanus of the world.
Please don't sue me.
It's just as well...with the CDs and postage I was actually losing money.
So now, the only way to support the site is to tell me you love me.
It's cheap and priceless at the same time.
aw man, that sucks but its better than getting sued right?
Posted by: kat on January 20, 2003 05:11 PM*I love you*
I got a confirmation for the order I placed to thank you for the CD very recently, so I guess that 'thong' is one of the last original keanuvision-collectables... If it's shipped. Mm.
I won't put it on ebay... I won't... :-)
Posted by: Julie on January 20, 2003 05:44 PMnow fucking way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn, "I LOVE YOU"!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: tess on January 20, 2003 05:47 PMnow????? egads, edit, should read no.........doh
You know, not to belittle your enterprise, but whatever you were making from it wasn't going to put the I {heart} people in the poor house was it? Sheesh. And the Keanu part - that could mean I heart anyone named Keanu, right? I wonder if the store wasn't attached to your KR site if it would be ok. I'm sure we could find a few Keanus in the Aloha state. I guess if we hearted some guy named Bob, it would be cool until Bob Dylan got wind of it. Do I hear an e-Bay blowout sale coming on? Or is that against the rules too?
Posted by: Chianti on January 20, 2003 05:48 PMSo glad I have my "I heart Keanu" mug and boxer shorts. I will always treasure them!!
Posted by: luvske on January 20, 2003 05:52 PMNo, I certainly wasn't making any money. In fact I figured they would close me down next month for lack of sales anyway. I just feel bad because I really thought that the design was OK. I made a point of researching it before I put up the store, made a choice not to use any photos I took and own the rights to in case the fact that he is a celeb made it infringement. I didn't think that the "I heart" was problem, for sure. But, oh well. I've been reading their forums today and I think they are just tightening down, covering their asses. They've closed a bunch of people down for "possible" infringement and it's up to the member to prove otherwise to get it re-opened. It's just not fucking worth the hassle for the 3 or 4 bucks a month it was bringing in.
Posted by: krix on January 20, 2003 06:00 PMthat seems so dumb. i was just looking at the store too. oh well. but hey -- thanks so much for the cd!!!!!!!!
Posted by: laura on January 20, 2003 06:08 PMOne would think that lawyers would have better things to do. One would think.
I still love you Krix! Your site rocks!
Posted by: Illusionaire on January 20, 2003 07:24 PMOh, that's just great! Now I have to worry about my I Love Keanu teddy bear for the rest of my life! Damn, that sucks donkey dick! Oh, well. Teddy & I both wuv you, Krix!
Posted by: Renie on January 20, 2003 07:47 PMI'm really sorry about this news! I got some "heart" stuff from you (and a cd, thanks!!)and I thought it was great.Guess I was lucky at the last minute. There are people who really try to bring others together to build some kind of global community spirit (whatever the means)inspired by a common interest and other buttholes who try to take people apart to further their own "potential" greedy interest. We love you in spite of them...
Posted by: T on January 20, 2003 08:05 PMthose bastards.
don't they have silkscreen transfer stuff for color printers? why not setup your own bootleg Keanu shop out of your house?
in any case, i do love you, and i'm oh so sorry the corporate bastards shut you down.
Posted by: kd on January 20, 2003 08:54 PMQuestion: Who is the "they" closed you down.
It cannot be trademark or copyright infringement, unless Keanu has taken out a copyright or trademark on his name.
Under the circumstances I don't see how or why he would do that.
Whatthefuckever, your site still rocks.
Posted by: Tyler on January 20, 2003 09:23 PM"i love you, krix." whatthefuckever. i just fuckin' love you, you know that, everybody knows that, and by golly, everybody should do it!! so there...
Posted by: Lori on January 20, 2003 09:38 PMThey is Cafepress and they have every right to refuse to produce anything they choose. Yes, I could produce my own stuff, but it's too much hassle, and I really don't want to be guilty of profiting from infringement. The reason I had the designs I did was I thought they were OK. And if there's a possibilty they aren't, I'm happy to be shut down.
Thank you for the love, everyone. I feel better now.
Now I just have to figure out a way to get rid of the rest of these damn CDs.
Onward.
Posted by: krix on January 20, 2003 09:47 PMErgh, the world is too litigious. Hope the tempest was in a very small teapot, Krix.
Love you, love your site. And btw the Quattro Formaggio CD came in the mail today. It's superb. I've never heard Dogstar before, and I'm liking it quite a bit. Thanks so much!!
Posted by: Kelly on January 20, 2003 10:08 PMWhat is wrong with people?? That blows!!! Well, I love ya Krix and if it makes you feel better ET will have Matrix content on Thursday (interview with Joel Silver) *and* Friday they will show a bit of the trailer that will be shown on Sunday during the Super Bowl. And then of course *the* new Matrix Reloaded trailer during the Super Bowl on Sunday. So, the whole week isn't shot! :)Rock on & don't let the bastards get you down!
Posted by: Natasha on January 20, 2003 10:11 PMAwwwh, I love you.
I can't add much more to it than that. Everyone's already said it :)

*hugs*
That means my store is no more too...
Does 'keanuholic' "constitute both copyright and trademark infringement"???
Posted by: Keanuette on January 21, 2003 01:11 AM"It cannot be trademark or copyright infringement, unless Keanu has taken out a copyright or trademark on his name."
Tyler makes a good point....!
Posted by: Keanuette on January 21, 2003 01:17 AMsorry about the store, but YES! we all still love you, krix!
Posted by: on January 21, 2003 05:07 AMThank you everyone. It's all going to be fine. It was more promotional than financial support and with my bandwith concerns of late, I really won't even miss the promotion.
Jen, if you're concerned about "keanuholic" then you could ask in their member forums. I'm guessing that they would want to remove it though. Remember, you agreed to play by cafe-press' rules and it's their right to close down a shop for whatever reason they like. Or you can just let it go and wait and see if they decide to close you or not. One thing though. They give you no warning, and once they close you you can't get onto your sales records or anything. It's like the store never existed.
Posted by: krix on January 21, 2003 10:32 AMWell, I decided to write them back and find out if I am allowed to create a store with products bearing just KEANUVISION.COM on them. We'll see what happens.
