Long-gone microchipped cat finds ownerSAN CARLOS, Calif. -- Call it Ted's excellent adventure, with a high-tech twist: A cat with an ID microchip implanted under his skin was returned to his owner 10 years after he jumped out a window and vanished.
Chris Inglis' sleek, black feline, Ted, was fitted with the chip back when the technology was still new in the early 1990s. But he was gone without a trace for a full decade before someone found him this week.
Ted - named for Keanu Reeves' character in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" - was brought to the Peninsula Humane Society's animal shelter, which tracked down Inglis despite outdated information on the chip. The cat was found about 13 miles south of where Inglis used to live in Burlingame.
When the pair reunited Wednesday, the cat "rubbed his face on my hand, climbed right up and started purring," Inglis said. "It's pretty monumental. It's almost surreal."
Where Ted spent all those years remains a mystery, but it appeared someone had been taking care of him.
Inglis remembers that one of the things he and Ted liked to do was cruise around in his car. On their way home from the shelter, Inglis said Ted "put his front paws on the dashboard," just like in the old days.
Anyone have a pet named after Keanu or a character? I've always thought Jjaks would be a great name for a dog.
And my girl cat has recently developed a bad habit of chewing patches of her fur away. I could call her Marlon.
Killerkitty: Alert, alert!!! I call for a CatLiberationFront emergency-meeting!
Foodsnatcher: Now? But I was just having a salmon-steak!!!
Killerkitty: It's that evil Dogstarwoman again!!! They've got TED!!!
Foodsnatcher: Ted? Our undercover agent, assigned to find out if our suspicions about our archenemy, the dogstar, are true??? The one who risked his life by accepting a role in the Matrix as the deja-vu cat, so he could secretly stake out the evil bassist????
Killerkitty: Yes!!! Apperently one of the operatives of this 'Krix' has caught him!!
Foodsnatcher: Heee! Can I have his food-ration?
Killerkitty: Oh, stuff it! He's in danger! AND, she's obviously torturing our agent Humphrey's sister, too! She knows he'll never talk, so she hits him with his weakness!!! We must DO something!!!!!!
Foodsnatcher: Doesn't our human say 'Delicious' when she refers to this Krix? Might this mean that she's edible?
Killerkitty: I guess so...
Foodsnatcher: Then you don't need to worry about a thing, my love... *pats his belly and books a ticket to Vegas*
My computer's named Jjaks right now. I plan to name my future hamster Cracker Jjaks.

Posted by: krix on September 25, 2003 07:21 PMI have a cat named Jack. But not named after Jack from Speed, my Jack only has one eye, so he is aptly named Jack as in one-eyed-jack. Someone put him and his 11 littermates in a pillow case and tried to throw them into a nearby bayou, thank goodness the a-hole had terrible aim and the pillow case missed the water and landed in some bushes and we were able to save them. We gave the other 11 away, but Jack was 'damaged' so we ended up keeping him.
He's the best cat around. So Bill, don't aim for the cat!
Posted by: w on September 25, 2003 08:36 PMWell, our little cate has the name Neo!! Isn't that the cutest name ever?
Posted by: Shanice on September 26, 2003 09:43 AMMy kitties were named before I knew Keanu - but they are cool nevertheless. Chloe - my baby for 13 1/2 years who passed on to that big mice field in the sky; Sammy, who is totally black and panther-like, has accupuncture and holistic meds for her allergies; and Tabby, a.k.a. Tabbers, who is not really a tabby cat, but a large Calico whiney-butt with a Minnie Mouse voice. Future kitties, I'm sure, will have much cooler Keanu-related names.
The above cat sounds awesome to know. Cats Rule! "Ted" LOL! \m/
We have a new puppy named Trinity. She is only 3 pounds, but she thinks she's 80 pounds. She practices kung foo on our other dogs. We are thinking of buying her a black leather suit. By the way, what can I do to see your pictures. They are all little red x's.
Posted by: Meli on September 26, 2003 12:43 PMMeli, I don't know what causes that. I wish I did and could fix it. It may be your browser settings or something.
Posted by: krix on September 26, 2003 01:40 PMThanks Kris, you pointed me in the right direction. It was in my Norton settings. I don't know why but yours was one of the few sites it would happen at. It's fixed now so I can see all of your wonderful pictures!
