This whole Dogstar thing has been handled very badly.

Indeed it has...
That's really sad. :( I was just becoming a fan and it's too late. I hope they all find successful paths.
Posted by: Weezie on September 30, 2003 03:38 PMAgreed krix. :(
Posted by: Chicks on September 30, 2003 03:41 PMFor anyone not familiar with Bret's solo stuff, here are a few samples of new unreleased tunes that I posted with my review of his show at the Viper on June 20, 2002.

Posted by: krix on September 30, 2003 03:45 PMIf handled badly before, this latest did nothing to help. :(
Thanks krix, downloading now. I still want to hear those Dogstar songs that never got recorded. :)
Posted by: Chicks on September 30, 2003 03:55 PMSomething else. . .
"you all enjoyed with DogStar (which if you don't know-he wrote 90 percent of it no matter what the credits on the album say)"
That did not need to be said and is pretty much a cheap shot.
He lost a fan.
Posted by: Tyler on September 30, 2003 04:01 PMI love "Comfort Me."
Posted by: Chicks on September 30, 2003 04:04 PMAs far as I know, "Jem" is NOT Bret, so to blame him for what was posted isn't really fair, and a "knee-jerk reaction" to a "cheap shot".
I love 'Comfort Me' too, Chicks
Posted by: krix on September 30, 2003 04:05 PMStill a cheap shot.
Posted by: Tyler on September 30, 2003 04:06 PMAw...
Thanx for posting the link babe :-)
That was very sweet of you, but it also inmedeatly reminded me *why* I never go to messageboards and stuff. I started reading the thread and the 4th or 5th post was already a 'bitching and telling off' comment.
I hate it when people do that. If you can't say anything nice then just don't say anything at all.
I find the whole thing rather strange. I hope it doesn't get him down too much... :-(
I'm not really sad about it because there's much worse things in the world, but I do feel a little 'melancholic' because I never got to see a show -getting drunk on Red-bull & vodka included ;-) or witness the interaction between them.
Either way, this is just weird. Very weird.
Sad, but I called this 2 years ago!
Posted by: Jenn on September 30, 2003 05:16 PMOK, now everything has been removed.
I have no idea what the hell's going on then.
I agree that this was handled very badly. If they have indeed disbanded the band should have issued some kind of statement together and posted it on the site a few days before the site was closed. If its just the site that's closing down - or if they intend to play together down the road, at least say something, and not leave it up to "JEM," whomever she or he may really be. I always thought JEM was Bret's g/f.
In any case, people over there are getting kind of nasty, and all the blaming and finger pointing could have been avoided if they had handled it properly.
Posted by: Chianti on September 30, 2003 07:00 PMYou're right Chianti, alot if not all the nastiness on the board right now could have been avoided if they took the time and gave the fans an official statement one way or the other. Dogstar was together for many years and to keep fans hanging on with the "hibernation" thing then just pull the carpet out from under, well, not very cool. Don't get me wrong, I love Keanu first and utmost and I'm not angry at him, I'm just kinda disappointed they as a group didn't get together and give the loyal fans a better ending. A Happier Ending rather than Bitchy Ending. I'm sad not only because of the demise of Dogstar but because of the lack of consideration given to the fans who have been waiting for a reunion or some official statement.
So, with that, I say, BECKY!! you better someday play in Texas so I can go see Keanu since I never could with Dogstar!
Can someone give me an overview of what was taken down on the Dogstar board? Did JEM post about the Becky Band, or did the Webmaster, and what was said?
Posted by: MC at RD on September 30, 2003 08:38 PMI figure that there was a reason that the message (along with all the others) was nuked and I DO NOT want it reposted here.
Feel free to email each other or something.
I'm too sick to deal with the drama.
Posted by: krix on September 30, 2003 08:43 PMMC, you can read a copy of Jem's post from the MB at Keanuette's site http://keanuholic.com/
I'm saddened by it all too. I was lucky enough to attend all their Northern California gigs since the release of Happy Ending. I just wish Becky would venture out of Southern Cal and come up and see us here sometime!
Posted by: geebie on September 30, 2003 08:53 PMI got the message saying the site was being taken down, but didn't see the stuff on the messageboard that caused all the ruckus. So maybe this is a misinformed opinion, but... who says Dogstar is over just because the site went down? I choose to continue to believe! :)
Posted by: lori on September 30, 2003 09:39 PMThank you geebie. :)
Posted by: MC at RD on September 30, 2003 09:55 PMwho is this Jem and what right does he have to pass a statement like that?
Posted by: K Rox40 on October 1, 2003 06:13 AMKrix, I'm curious. Why do you make a habit of bringing a subject up and then forbidding people to comment on it? I've seen you do this a few times. If ya don't want people talking about something, don't bring it up. Simple.
Posted by: Curious on October 2, 2003 12:50 AMI don't believe that I forbid it to be discussed. Since a discussion of it was already starting in an unrelated entry so I figured I'd better give it its own entry. Then, once the post on the DMB was removed, I asked that it not be reposted here. I don't know why it was removed but in case it was at Jem's or the Webmaster's request, it seemed like the thing to do. It was a choice that I made.
If you can please give some examples of the times I've brought something up and then forbid discussion are, I assure you that if it's a habit, I'd like to change it. The only thing that comes to mind is the bail bond check that was up for auction, and though I admit I wish I hadn't posted about it, the only thing I edited was a name that was not Keanu's on the check that was posted in a comment and I felt uncomfortable making public on my site. The occasions where I have had to edit a comment have been few, and have almost always had to do with bringing up some aspect of Keanu's personal life, and I have yet to ban anyone over comments. I do avoid posting certain news items and articles but every once in a while a discussion takes a turn that I have to head off at the pass. Neither I nor my judgment is perfect, I just do the best I can at the given moment.
I hope that satisfies your curiosity. If not, then I guess all I can say is that if you do not like the way I run my site, you should not visit it. Simple.
Dear 'Curious':
Krix is sharp-witted and well-spoken enough, so she doesn't need me to come to her 'rescue'. But I do feel bad about this, because *I* asked her where I could find the dogstar message-board. When she posted the link, the whole discussion hadn't really started yet, so she had no idea that it would turn into one of these 'bitter shouting matches'. Therefore, it's not her 'fault' for bringing it up.
I think the way Krix handles this site is absolutely perfect. She needs a tight control over which subjects are being discussed. Because if she doesn't, this safe haven will turn into a bitch-board as well. I'm one of these people that absolutely DOES NOT want to know the 'where and what', who he's dating or not, where that paparazzi-pic was taken, bla, bla, bla. The only times I've seen comments editted was at times like that, and I'm eternally grateful that they were.
Krix has good taste. Please don't question her about that, it's one of her best assets.
-and please don't take *this* as a 'bitching' towards you, I wish you all the best in the world :-) *be excellent to each other*
Posted by: Julie on October 2, 2003 08:43 AMJulie, there's no reason for you to feel bad, I posted the entry and the link to the message before you asked about it. I read it once and was so floored by the thought that the official site was being taken down and a band member wasn't even aware of it that I didn't think of much else. In hindsight I can see how some people had a problem with some parts of the message or that it was posted at all, as I suppose the tone did take Bret's "side" so to speak. But people were asking for word from Jem after the webmaster's announcement, so to criticize Jem for obliging the request is not really fair. The post may have been made in an emotional moment, and some of Jem's feelings about the whole situation came across, but the implications are still there, and it seems a member of the band was NOT aware of the fate of the site and to me that counts as being "handled very badly". Which is what I posted.
Posted by: krix on October 2, 2003 09:07 AMBoy, was the whole thing handled poorly. In some ways I have to think Bret knew it was coming.
IMO-Keanu enjoys playing in a band but as he's said acting is home for him and if the music thing becomes to much of a hassle he's not down with it. Having been around music groups for a loooog time they all have drama and making even the best of them work is a FULL time gig.
Word to Rebecca learn from this and make plans to do your own thing!
Posted by: kay on October 2, 2003 09:53 AM:-D I must *do* something about that damned eye-sight of mine ;-) I didn't notice, because I always use 'history' and click to the separate issues. When there's tons of comments, I go offline again & retrieve it from my 'history', to save you 'streaming time' when reading :-)
I think you must have put it there wile I was offline.
The reason I wrote the above part was not just because I felt bad, but also because I like and accept people the way they are. And when I see someone being questioned about 'why' they are *what* they are, my sense of 'rightfulness' gets invaded. You don't need to 'explain' or 'justify' one of the best parts of your personality to a complete stranger in the middle of the night. It's simply who you are. And you should be proud of that part of you. :-)
I have no opinion about the dogstar thing for excactly the same reason. It's just not my business. I simply feel sorry for the people that were personally attacked or hurt by it -'whoever or whatever' *it* was.
Posted by: Julie on October 2, 2003 09:56 AMWhatever the circumstances are behind this DS drama we will probably never know. I just have to have faith that Keanu is the person I perceive him to be - a loyal friend that wouldn't screw over anybody.
IMO I think "Jem" posted in haste because she is close to Bret. If there had been any talk of recording or touring as DS in the future, her statements certainly would make that a difficult situation now. Some of the things she posted don't make sense relative to what others have said; for instance, the webmaster posted "The band would really like those of you who have formed friendships and a community to feel free to continue to use this board." If the band did indeed decide that, IMO that would mean Bret would have known the site was being taken down.
I hope the guys can still maintain their friendships after all is said and done.
Posted by: Chianti on October 2, 2003 11:35 AMNote to krix :
I admire the way you run your site. I admire your principles and I love that you stick to them. I have never met you, but having read this site "cover to cover" I can't help but believe you are a kind and generous person on top of being a very talented one. Your regular readers would agree with this, I'm sure, and your friends would confirm it. There are enough sites out there where people can post unproven junk and speculate to their heart's content. Yours is a gem amongst the rubble.
Keep it up! :)
Posted by: Zen on October 2, 2003 12:28 PMWell, thats the guys own opinion, I read the post on Keanuholic, Oh well, it wasnt nasty to me.
They all did a good job when the band was active. I wish them all the best in all they do.
Well, Im not sad, I saw it coming too, I mean they arent gone for good, besides I have better things to worry of.
At least we have their music! :)
