They just mentioned Keanu on The Today Show in a segment on Hollywood and stupid unusual baby names. I love his name and think his parents made a great choice. Mentioning the Cool Breeze was out of place in the spot which talked about Zowie Bowie and the Zappa kids and some of the interesting choices that some famous folks have made for thier kids. Remind me to ask Rob Morrow about naming his daughter Tu if I ever meet him. Evidently the Cox-Arquettes named their new baby, Coco. Which I think is a little cute even though it makes me think of a poodle.
I bet they are so happy with her that they go all coo-coo over Coco ;-)
Keanu isn't a stupid name! It's a common name in Hawaii! 'Keana' from 'the Keanu in a box'-blog is Hawaiian, and that's her REAL name, not an internet nickname from a fan. So this is pretty insultive. Bah! *grmbls* *shakes fist*
*spits* *hisses some Dutch curses* *looks rather mean* *makes the 'tsk' sound*
I'm sorry for my moodyness, just a little over-worked ;-)
Posted by: Julie! on June 16, 2004 09:38 AMThat's the name my three year old named our Bunny. CoCo. Biggest darn dwarf rabbit ever... It's a giant dwarf bunny I think. Darn pet shop saw me coming...
Posted by: jeannie on June 16, 2004 09:54 AMWhat is this, bash Keanu week? Keanu is a beautiful name! Of course I always dreamed we could bond over our "experiences having an unusual first name in elementary school". And why can't people pronounce it?
Grrrrrr....*raises fist with Julie! at Keanu-bashers*
Posted by: nudel on June 16, 2004 10:52 AMLOL @ Julie! and Nudel... -
what's so unusual about Nudel?
It's German for PASTA
...and yes, I'll join you lot with raising my fist
and shaking it at whoever deserves it...
As to baby names I guess I like Coco better than Apple
(what kind of A. anyway? Granny Smith?? Macoun???)
although a little dachshund I once had was called CoCo
(an abbreviation for something I don't remember)
and Keanu is a beautiful name for a pretty guy!
I've always thought Keanu was beautiful name. I find the spelling beautiful too. Yes, I like the spelling of certain words, I'm just weird that way.
And Julie!'s right. It's a real name, so it does not fall in the same category as Apple and Coco and Zowie. I actually find Apple kind of cute, but Coco is going to seriously suck when that kid grows up.
Posted by: Zen on June 16, 2004 11:25 AMI thought it was a joke at first - COurtney COx = CoCo - I guess was how they came up with that one, but it's cute until she hits 80, and Coco isn't going to be that cute.
I couldn't help but think of Chris Rock, though - when asked about his newborn daughter and his goals as a father - he replied "just to keep her off the pole" (meaning away from seeking a career as an exotic dancer.) Her name - Lola. Although Lola was my grandmother's name, I mean he's just asking for it isn't he? Maybe she and Coco will be opening in Vegas in 20 years.
And as far as Mr. Cool Breeze goes - as others said, it's like "Bob" in Hawaii - every Tom, Dick and Harry is named Keanu.
Posted by: Chianti on June 16, 2004 11:37 AMWasn't that monkey's name Coco...maybe that is where she got it........:S
Posted by: Mrs. Cool Breeze on June 16, 2004 12:04 PMI heard that Courtney and David named their baby Coco after Coco Chanel. And, Keanu isn't a weird name, just a name from a culture and language different from English. Why pick on Keanu and not Denzel (Washington), or Vin (Diesel), or Ving (Rhames). The list is endless. And I am really glad that Burt Reynolds didn't introduce Keanu at the Taurus Awards show. Burt was narrating/hosting a showing of Point Break on one of the cable stations and kept pronouncing Keanu's name like "Key-anne-oh". >;[
Posted by: Susan Liller on June 16, 2004 12:07 PMcoco... actually... is the nicname adopted by Coco Chanel...of house Chanel... a fashion cat! she was quite revolutionary in the way she shaped our world today... basically inventing sportswear/ready-to-wear(off the rack clothing), making tanning popular, doing away with that pesky crinoline thingy...she probably got her thing for pearls from QE I(as opposed to the QEII!!) her work in jersey is most notable...)))she actually gave us the "little black dress" in 1926 and invented the pea coat!!! i love that pea coat...i remember that pea coat. i... ah... wrote a thesis paper on her in school...and named one of my cats after her!!!! she's pretty cool...more here...http://womenshistory.about.com/library/bio/blbio_chanel_coco.htm
The monkey's name was marcel
Vin Diesel is completely made up
(All ego - All the time!)
Ving is short for Irving from what Ive heard
Posted by: krissy on June 16, 2004 12:23 PMLOL@Lola and Coco opening in Vegas! Yeah...I saw Chris Rock say that on the Daily Show…that's funny.
I've never had trouble pronouncing Keanu's name…and I like. It's beats Tom, Dick, and Harry hands down.
Posted by: shelz on June 16, 2004 02:35 PMstupid unusual name? hmmm, what about AshTon? (please, don´t beat me, krix)
Posted by: vika on June 16, 2004 03:39 PMI meant, my real life name is unusual. Because if I ever meet Keanu, I ain't introducing myself as nudel! *wink*
And yeah, I thought Coco for Coco Chanel...not my favorite name but I'm not one to talk. (see previous sentence)
Posted by: Nudel on June 16, 2004 04:16 PMnudel, your real name is gawgeous. :)
Posted by: Zen on June 16, 2004 07:09 PMAt least Keanu doesn't get asked stupid questions about '60s sitcoms everytime he gives his name.
Sheesh.
Posted by: Tabitha on June 17, 2004 07:05 AMLOL@"what about Ashton"
...I'm still laughing at that one Vika!
Posted by: shelz on June 17, 2004 10:02 AMHis name is just one of his beautiful qualities; his parents could just look at him and tell he could work that name. He just wouldn't be him if he was named Sam, Jr., Benjie or John. Ke-ahhhh-nu... oh yeah!
I was a bank teller and a welfare social worker; used to collect joke names for personal chuckles. "Normal" folks do mean stuff to babies in the way of names
*also shaking small fist at Keanu bashers everywhere*
