According to Variety, via ComingSoon.net - Keanu will star in The Night Watchman for director Spike Lee. The story is of "a disgraced cop who discovers corruption inside a police department and sets out on a mission to redeem himself." Filming begins in February.
I'm sort of "meh" about the premise, but I'm excited that Keanu's going to work with the esteemed Mr. Lee, whom I love for his sneaker commercials and basketball heckling.
cinema | from inside the mind of krix at November 16, 2004 09:09 AM .This should be good. I wonder who else is in the film and where they'll shoot it? I know Spike likes to work in NYC which would be great for me! We on the East coast haven't had a chance to see Keanu filming since DA.
Posted by: kay on November 16, 2004 11:07 AMI'm quite thrilled about this Spike Lee thing. I'm sure he'll find a way to make, what appears to be a done-to-death premise, new and exciting.
Oh and also, Keanu will be in it.
;)
Yes this does sound like a storyline that has been told several times over. But, in my opinion, for Keanu to sign on to do it there must be a pretty good script involved. One that hopefully will provide an interesting twist.
If not, then like Zen said, atleast Keanu will be in it. ;-D
Posted by: Lisa on November 16, 2004 01:38 PMThis bit is in one of the other reports:
"The story was written by James Ellroy, the man behind LA Confidential and
the upcoming Black Dahlia, who has made a career writing about the
intricacies of police work and knows a thing or two about creating
gripping cop stories. He also makes a welcome habit of abandoning the
traditional police cliches - the maverick cop who gets results, the ugly,
corrupt cop who kills witnesses and robs criminals - in favour of rather
more intelligent characters."
Which sounds very promising, actually. I'm a little less meh now.
Posted by: krix on November 16, 2004 01:43 PMvery interesting...
i remember seeing 'she's gotta have it' in a theater in LA and also we watched la confidential in film class
Although I can't wait to see Constantine and Scanner, I am glad he is working on a completely separate movie. It's like a breath of fresh, clean, air...a "cool breeze" ;-)
I was so excited about this, because I love LA Confidential. Not so crazy about Spike Lee, but I'm sure yet again Keanu will turn me on to something new!
Posted by: Nudel on November 17, 2004 03:54 AMI was very impressed with "Summer Of Sam" The feeling of the time was perfectly portrayed. The actors were all fab but I think that Spike Lee made the film what it is. I'm just thrilled Keanu will be working with him!
